Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Even though internships are not required by the CEE programs, the CEE Department encourages students to experience an internship before graduation. Since internships have no credits, they do not need the approval of our department, unless student is international. The CEE department offers 1-credit hour courses to those international students participating in internships with the industry, under the Optional Practical Training program. These courses are CGN4949, Co-Op Work Experience in Civil Engineering, and ENV4949, Co-Op Work Experience in Environmental Engineering.

The CEE department also offers different opportunities for undergraduate students interested in research, working with faculty members and their groups in several laboratories. This work may count as a 3-credit technical elective, with the approval of the faculty and undergraduate advisor. Courses for undergraduate research are CGN4911, Undergraduate Research Experience in Civil Engineering, and ENV4910, Undergraduate Research Experience in Environmental Engineering.

Students should contact the individual professors or CEE undergraduate advisors to find out about these opportunities.
